Ayman’s perspective
Human rights violations have become a major issue and in recent times, it has been on a drastic up rise. And with that said what I found appalling about all of this is how
the media, the sources that are supposed to be neutral and are supposed to broadcast all news with no intention of favoritism, is clearly sold out.
I might not be the only one who feels that way. Especially with all the media and journalists reporting fake news for validation being a trend in recent times. In the modern times, media and journalism is competing for views and validation and not for the deliverance of properly sourced news. And for more attention, these media outlets have a tendency to stir up the news and magnify the actual meaning of the context in order to achieve their main goal of gaining more views.
And with that said several media outlets do this by picking sides, i.e would
support the side where they would rack up more interest.
It is the 21st century and yet there is a good chunk of our species, the one gifted with knowledge and has the capacity to think in a progressive manner that still is in denial to accept change like most of us have by setting our differences aside and understanding that this is more than just our trivial sentiments.
In 2019, the world saw a year full of global protests, from
the Hong Kong protests to the Yellow Vest protests in
France, there has been plenty of news there to be
reported. But news agencies did not see these protests
or significantly sensitive matters for what they truly are
and instead managed to manipulate a wide circle of the
audience and that circle kept on getting bigger as time
passed by and just because of their greed of money, they
have succeeded in creating hatred amongst those who
watched their broadcasts which not only is wrong but
also immoral.
Appealing to a wide range of the audience is quite a job
itself but to use a platform or such sorts to spread false
accusations instead of reporting what is actually
happening is not right. Some media platforms achieve
their target of gaining more attention by pretending to
be more patriotic, or supporting a ruling party or the
leading opposition. This way they attain the support of a
particular part of the audience and gain attention but
sometimes in such cases only half of the news is
considered and the rest is washed off as rubbish.
A good example is the recent reaction by the media on Asma Jehangir, a human right’s activist. The Pakistani media rubbished her words and labeled her as a hypocrite to the state and therefore were able to turn several parts of
the audience against her.
Such examples show that the media has an extremely magnanimous impact on the society and if such cases continue to hover then it might not be so wrong to consider that the media has sold itself out. And according to my personal viewpoint, I believe if this is just left to be ignored like this then such a state might seem more than
just inevitable.
When human rights are abused on a grand scale, the broth of purity boils and feeds the rebellion of a new order.
